The Election Commission has started work on an electronic voting machine, under which three committees have been formed to implement the EVM and Internet voting law passed by the Parliament.
According to the ECP, the technical committee will be headed by the Secretary Election Commission. The committee will review the use of EVMs and overseas voting and identify future requirements and preparations.
Additional Secretary Admin will head the second committee. This committee will estimate the cost of EVM and internet voting. In addition, the committee will set up mechanisms for pilot experience and the use of machines.
In addition, the third committee will be chaired by the Director-General of Law and will make suggestions for amendments to existing EVM rules and regulations.
It may be recalled that the government, in a recent joint sitting of Parliament, amended the election law and introduced a bill for legal use of the electronic voting machine, which was passed by a majority vote.
