Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a reduction of Rs 5 per liter in petrol, after which petrol will be sold at Rs 140.82 per liter for the next fortnight.
Similarly, for the next fortnight, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs 5, kerosene by Rs 7, and light diesel by Rs 7 a paise.
After reduction, the price of high-speed diesel will be Rs 137.62 per liter, kerosene Rs 109.53, and light diesel Rs 107.06 per liter.
According to the Treasury Department, the new prices will apply from midnight on December 15 to January 1.
It may be recalled that a day earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had sent a summary of prices of petroleum products to the Ministry of Finance, which also mentioned the decline in the global market.
In the last fortnight, the prices of petroleum products in the world market have come down to 74 74 per barrel.
